A Week Away…
Thoughts as I return home to freezing rain and snow in February in Michigan…
☀️Sunshine is my favorite accessory☀️
In my last marriage post, I discussed the importance of making time for your spouse. I also mentioned that my husband, Ben, and I are celebrating our 15 year anniversary this year and decided to celebrate with a trip away for a week! This is the longest vacation we had ever taken without our kids, a whole week just the two of us!
As I reflect on our time away together, all warm feels come to mind. We were fortunate enough to stay at a friend’s timeshare in Puerto Vallarta on the Vidanta property and it did not disappoint!! We stayed at the Grande Luxxe Tower 5 and it was extremely dreamy complete with a loft king suite, which was perfect for the two of us. The room had a huge rain shower, large soaking bathtub (I now really can appreciate how relaxing a good bath is), a small kitchenette area and the most incredible views!
This was our view during our morning coffee:
The resort has 18 pools (some on roof tops!!), a lazy river and even a water slide. There are 23 restaurants, so you never get bored of eating the same things. All of that was wonderful, but honestly, my favorite part of PV was the beautiful backdrop of the mountains. It was like nothing else I had ever seen before, just gorgeous!
I so loved being able to relax and enjoy time with my husband without the stress of kids, work, finances…. the list goes on. In Mexico, we are fun relaxed and ready to have a great time together without a worry in mind. There is something magical about being able to leave our day to day stress and JUST BE.
We spent most of our time at two pools. A rooftop infinity pool and the Punta pool which was close to the beach. Both amazing views with lounge beds and the rooftop pool had hammocks… so comfy! With multiple days at the pool we often enjoyed a Mango Margarita with Tajin on the rim (best spice ever!!) or we enjoyed tequila, soda, lime… again with Tajin! It was too delicious to pass up. Both are my new favorites for a relaxing beverage in the sun!
One night, we ventured away from the resort and had a really fun experience in downtown Puerto Vallarta. We first went to Malacon, a boardwalk area along the beach. There you will experience fun bars, shops and restaurants. Along the boardwalk, people create huge sand sculptures and rock statues. It was incredible! Those people are amazing artists! The boardwalk was a wonderful place to chill and enjoy a “cervaza” while breathing in the calming ocean air. We then grabbed a Taxi to a restaurant in the mountains called El Palomar de los Gonzolas. Upon arrival, a 12 year old boy greeted us at our taxi and escorted us into the small restaurant of about 8 tables overlooking the city and ocean! Locals call this this the romantic district of PV…. and romantic it was! The mood was spot on with beautiful lighting and authentic Mexican musicians. My favorite part of the night was when the waiter created a Mexican Coffee table side. It’s ingredients include liquor, coffee and ice cream, which is apparently the trifecta. The ending product is flaming and delicious.
Overall, the best part of our kid-free trip was to just get away and just be the two of us again. Worry-free and focusing on our love for one another. We talked about our dreams, hopes and wishes… it almost felt like before we were married and dreamt of our life together. Even though we have been married for 15 years, are in our late 30s, and have 3 children we love and adore, we still have lots of dreams and hopes for ourselves & together ahead of us in this life time. It was an incredible time to reflect, reconnect and enjoy “us”.
