Change takes TIME, and that is something we never want to give ourselves. We want instant gratification with everything these days, especially when it comes to getting a physique we can be proud of.
My story starts when I was 28 years old. At this point, I had 2 kids and really wanted to be healthier. I still would drink Coke and hit the local McDonalds or Wendys drive thru… I craved that greasy deliciousness! My days were long with a baby, a toddler and a full time job as a teacher, so usually every night ended with a glass of wine. I felt I deserved this treat! Workout-wise, I would run every once in a while – about 3 miles or so but didn’t exercise consistently. In a nutshell, my life lacked health!
Well with all of that, as you can guess, I was tired all the time and had no energy, and again I was ONLY 28. I knew I needed change! I joined a gym and started attending Les Mills classes with friends. I fell in love with the classes and even did them all throughout my 3rd pregnancy!
I decided after my daughter was born to get certified in BodyAttack, a cardio based Les Mills class. This was a huge jump out of my comfort zone but I was extremely excited about my new adventure. After becoming an instructor, I started to look beyond my exercise habits and analyzed my eating habits. That is when I realized how important it was that I cut out the “crap.” So I stopped the junk & fast foods on the regular, took away soda and started seeing results with my body! It didn’t happen overnight, it took TIME to see results, but I quickly felt AMAZING! As I tell my clients, think about how long it took for you to put on your weight… it’s going to take that long to get it off, too. The fuel you put in your body makes a difference.
Between fueling myself with less processed foods and exercising on the regular, I feel better now than I did a decade ago! Now at 38, I am a Les Mills instructor for BodyPump, GRIT Series, and BodyAttack and I am also a certified personal trainer. My lifestyle has changed so much in a decade. I did not always make the best choices but once you surround yourself with positive people with likeminded goals, change happens. I find I am constantly learning from those around me, which makes maintaining a healthy lifestyle exciting and fun.
I am a firm believer in sticking to the basics: fuel your body well and MOVE! If you want the change you have to make the effort but I promise in the end it’s all worth it.
Pictured is me at 28 vs. now at 38! I made a change & you can, too!
